Bioethics Certificate Course

I wanted to ask for your prayers as I start something else on top of everything else I'm doing. Every year, Children's Mercy in Kansas City offers a Pediatric Bioethics Certificate course for doctors, nurses, chaplains, administrators, etc.. I actually had an opportunity to share a parent's perspective from experience with a Bioethics consultation at the opening session of last year's class.

After talking more about the course with our PACT (Palliative Care Team) doctor, I applied to take the course this year, and they generously are letting me do so. Lots of folks have asked me why in the world I would consider doing something else with all that we have going on right now between work, family, Chloe, seminary, etc.. I'll be honest, I'm not entirely sure. I see a host of potential benefits from taking this course. Certainly, we have more ethical discussions and decisions in our future with Chloe. I can also see a possibility of being able to help parents interface better with ethics discussions from the parent's perspective.

At the end of the day, though, I'm taking the class because I feel like God has been opening doors this direction and is leading me to take the class. Chloe is as stable as she has ever been, and the Lord only knows how long it will be until we hit another crisis point. So, there's a bit of a window of opportunity.

And it's a really great opportunity! The class starts today and meets in person through Saturday. Then, the class is online for the next nine months before we reconvene in May to close out the class. Lest you all think I'm nuts, the pace of the class is much more spread out. All of my seminary classes are 8-week courses, usually with the 8th week being finals week, so the pace has been pretty grueling to get all of the material covered. That said, you all can pray for us that we continue to find balance between all of the things we're juggling!
